17 Sep 2009The anchored loop was sometimes used with many of the more normal rugs in the U. S. . Anchored loop is a technique that is used to create rugs on burlap or canvas using strips of fabrics, or rags. A similar method called the Australian “locker hooking” is done on burlap or canvas with yarns and roving. There are two tools which are used together with anchored loop rugs.
These tools are the standard rug hook, which is used to pull through a loop of fabric strip ; and the other tool is a lacing needle or bodkin which is used to lace the anchoring strip thru the loop. These types of rugs are more durable than regular hooked rugs because the loops of fabric can’t be pulled out. To make these rugs in the United dominion, a mixed tool is used that appears like a heavy steel crochet hook at one end with an enormous eye at the other end. This enables the loops to be pulled up, then anchored by employing only one tool. These locker hook tools are efficient devices to use with rag strips.
The more modern anchored loop rugs exploit a rug canvas base rather than a burlap base. It is better to accomplish regular stitching with a canvas base, and it is also far easier to handle when creating the rug. Tambour braids can also be used in combination with anchored loop rugs. The middle of this kind of rug is an anchored loop and the border is a basic tambour plat.
